Exhibition:

Metamorphosis: The Art of Altered Books

Exhibition dates:

Jeremy May, Grey’s Anatomy, 2012, printed textbook.

Metamorphosis: The Art of Altered Books will feature mixed media artists who carve, gouge, fold, collage, and manipulate books to transform the printed pages into a sculptural object. Exhibited works will explore the materiality of the object, layers of meaning within, communication and cultural connections, design potential, and possible extinction of books in today’s tech-driven world. A partial list of exhibiting artists includes Long-Bin Chen, Andy Hayes, Wendy Wahl, and Jacqueline Rush Lee.

Our Jeremy May Metamorphosis Contest

Calling all bibliophiles! What if you could wear your favorite book? Tell us about a literary work that is special to you, and London artist Jeremy May could transform it into a beautiful piece of original jewelry, just for you. Send a description of your favorite book to communications@fullercraft.org. Be sure to explain why it is your top pick – what personal meaning it holds, how or why it has influenced you, etc. May and Fuller Craft Museum Chief Curator Beth McLaughlin will chose from the pool of submissions, and one lucky winner will receive a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry made from the actual book. Don’t miss out on this rare opportunity! Due to the generosity of an anonymous donor, Fuller Craft Museum is proud to announce this exciting contest. May’s work is currently on display in our exhibit, “Metamorphosis: The Art of Altered Books.” He specializes in transforming old books into intricate pieces of jewelry.
