Make your own artistic paper by transforming used materials. Learn the basics of papermaking then experiment with pulp painting to make colorful images. You will design your own paintings and can incorporate pre-made stencils. All paper you make will be mailed to you after it dries.
Iris Wright (xe/xem/xyr) is a transdisciplinary artist who makes artist’s books and wearable sculptures. Xyr artworks have incorporated papermaking to discuss transformation and responsible material sourcing. Xe takes an experimental approach, believing anyone can discover a new technique once they have learned the basics. Iris lives and works in Providence, RI, where xe teaches public workshops, organizes exhibitions, and co-runs the artist collective abcpvd (Art Book Collective, Providence). This class includes standing for an extended period. Directions will be delivered verbally and with visual demonstrations. Students will be holding a mold and deckle, so should feel comfortable gripping a frame or small object without significant force.
