In this introductory class, students will learn the basics of wheel throwing and explore the entire ceramics process from start to finish. We’ll learn various techniques to create small cylinders, bowls, plates, and trim and glaze our pots as well. No experience necessary. Beginners welcome!
Marisa Finos (she/her/hers) is an artist and educator based in Providence, Rhode Island. Finos received her MFA in Craft/Material Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University, and her BFA in Ceramics from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. She has exhibited nationally, and been an Artist-in-Residence at Anderson Ranch Arts Center, Vermont Studio Center, and Arteles Creative Center in Finland. Her large-scale works explore thresholds of consciousness, body, and space, and serve as a platform to engage in conversations that challenge current attitudes about mortality. Finos operates her own small business teaching on-site ceramics workshops to local nonprofits and afterschool programs to help make learning ceramics more accessible, and facilitate opportunities to connect through art making.
This class requires sitting at a pottery wheel and using hands to mold and form clay. This class may involve exposure to minimal levels of clay dust; proper PPE will be provided. For more accessibility information regarding this class, please email cbest@fullercraft.org.
