One of our most popular classes at Fuller Craft has now expanded! Intro to Mosaics will be 4 class sessions long this fall.
The art of mosaics is as ancient as Mesopotamia and as modern as today. A mosaic can be as large as a cathedral, or as small as the pendant around your neck. It can be made with pebbles or gemstones or glass seashells or ceramics – limited only be the imagination. In this workshop, learn the basics of mosaics and find out if this timeless art form could become your new obsession.
We’ll learn about terms, tools and techniques, and participants will make one to two pieces experimenting with a variety of materials. The final day will be spent grouting and cleaning your pieces.
When Susan Rutgerson (she/her/hers) took her first mosaic class at Fuller Craft Museum nearly a decade ago, she had no idea that it would become an obsession. As an art form, mosaic’s ancient roots and endless possibilities appealed to her inner nerd. Experimenting with materials and creating pieces ranging from micro-mosaic jewelry to large outdoor fountains, she’s always looking for new materials or ideas to try. Her home is packed with glass and ceramic materials, some of which she made here at Fuller Craft in the Ceramics Studio, ready for the next project. Susan enjoys connecting and creating community through craft, whether she’s teaching a class, attending a workshop or creating alongside friends in the studio. She also started innermakers.com to showcase her work and participate in several craft shows per year – mostly to fund her obsession.
