Create a meaningful work of art while exploring the beauty of fused glass in this beginner-friendly mezuzah workshop. Participants will design a unique decorative glass mezuzah using colorful sheet glass and glass frit while learning the fundamentals of glass cutting, composition, and kiln-fusing techniques. No prior glass experience is necessary. Step-by-step instruction and an encouraging, supportive studio environment make this class enjoyable for beginners and experienced makers alike. Your completed glass artwork will be kiln-fired after class and will be ready for pickup at a later date.
This workshop is intended as an artistic exploration and craft experience. Participants will receive a wooden mezuzah case and a non-kosher scroll (klaf) to assemble with their finished glass piece after firing. Those seeking a halachically valid mezuzah should consult a rabbi regarding an appropriate kosher scroll and final assembly. Whether you’re creating a mezuzah for your own home, as a thoughtful gift, or as a way to explore Jewish artistic traditions through glass, you’ll leave with a beautiful handmade piece that reflects your own creativity.
Deenie Pacik Giuliano, MFA (she/her/hers) creates stained and fused glass artwork, including commissions of windows, doors, and room separators, and exhibits in juried shows and galleries. Deenie is currently translating a children’s book into watercolors and glass. She lives in Massachusetts with her spouse, twins, and many pets. She loves the woods, fun with family, and gardening. She taught fused glass at Diablo Glass and Fuller Craft Museum, drawing at Boston Architectural College, stained glass at Franklin Pierce, and multimedia at RISD Continuing Ed and Summer Camp. She has received awards from the Museum of Fine Arts Boston Enterprise Design and the Dorothy Maddy Scholarship of the Stained Glass Association. Deenie is currently the Flat Shop Manager at Blackstone River Glass Center.
