Transform ordinary fabric into a canvas of living color! In this hands-on workshop, you’ll discover the magic of eco-printing using plants such as vibrant marigolds, rich coreopsis, and golden onion skins, and gain the skills to mordant and dye your fabric in a way you can replicate in your home.
In addition to learning how to prep and dye textiles with breathtaking plant dyes, you’ll also craft your very own set of bojagi—beautiful, reusable Korean traditional wrapping cloths. Dating back centuries in Korea, these traditional cloths are rooted in the beautiful philosophy that wrapping an object is a way of wrapping it with good fortune and respect.
To wrap up the experience, Clara will guide you through two elegant, timeless techniques to wrap and present gifts with your new sustainable artworks. Give your gifts a soul, learn about a beautiful tradition, and give the planet a break this upcoming gifting season!
Clara Boberg (they/them/theirs) is a New England-based textile artist and farmer that specializes in natural dyes and fibers. They fell in love with the circular process of growing and using dyes and fibers after experiencing the time and care it takes to build a good relationship with the soil, plants, and surrounding community. Their work explores ideas of reciprocity, home, identity, and relationship building. A large part of their work is the process of sharing knowledge with others to create a communal space of curiosity and joy; this takes the form of workshops, intimate conversations, and resource sharing. They believe the process of working with and caring for the land in tandem with learning the social, environmental, and cultural histories of the spaces and materials they work with is required to be a responsible maker. As of late, they have been immersing themself in their farming and teaching practices alongside researching solutions for wool and wool waste cycles in New England.
