Fuller Craft Museum is proud to present Stories on the Planet: Asagi Maeda, a finely detailed exhibition featuring the wearable art of Japanese metalsmith Asagi Maeda. A gifted storyteller, Maeda creates miniature sculptural worlds designed to be worn on the body. Created from wood, plexiglass, resin, enamel, silver, gold, and precious stones—and often intricately engraved or enameled—the evocative artworks offer powerful reflections on everyday life. Swimmers, musicians, readers, and dancers express joy, tenderness, and sorrow, reminding viewers that even the smallest objects can hold entire worlds of feeling.
Born in Tokyo in 1977, Maeda has been creating since childhood, inspired by her mother’s art classes and her family’s connection to pearl-making. She studied sculpture at Tokyo Zokei University and later jewelry at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, blending fine art and craft traditions in her practice. Now based in Tokyo, she continues to create and exhibit internationally, while teaching wax carving at Jyoshibi Art University.
