Out of Bounds: The Art of Croquet

Exhibition dates: June 4, 2022 - November 6, 2022

Out of Bounds: The Art of Croquet is a striking exhibition of croquet mallets and balls made by 21 of the world’s leading wood artists, each exploring the function, form, and historic allure of the enduring sport. In reimagining the ball and mallet, the show’s exhibiting artists explore a wide range of subjects—from creative concerns to contemporary social issues — with clarity, wit, and technical skill. Exhibition curators — Jennifer-Navva Milliken, Artistic Director at the Center for Art in Wood in Philadelphia, PA, and furniture maker Silas Kopf from Northampton, MA — are both amateur devotees of the sport.

This exhibition was organized by Maine’s Center for Furniture Craftsmanship and is made possible by the Gretchen Keyworth Exhibition Fund.
