Created specifically for Fuller Craft Museum by New York artist Daina Shobrys, Geranium and Lotus Flowers are site-responsive works that activate the surrounding environment through scale, color, and form. Shobrys is a contemporary fiber artist known for her immersive, large-scale installations that translate organic forms into richly layered textile environments. Trained in textile arts and design, her practice is rooted in hand-dyeing, stitching, and the accumulation of repeated elements. Flowers serve as a central motif, offering a familiar point of entry while enabling deeper exploration of growth, fragility, and transformation. Here, the geranium, accessible and familiar, speaks to resilience and everyday vitality, while the lotus, rising pristine from murky waters, embodies spiritual transcendence and renewal.
Drawn to their ephemeral nature, Shobrys uses floral forms to investigate cycles of bloom and decay, as well as the tension between natural processes and constructed environments. Her work encourages viewers to consider both the beauty and impermanence of the natural world.
