This 8-week course focuses on all the basics of working on a pottery wheel. This introductory-level course is for beginner through advanced students with individualized instruction that will cover basic skills, control, and self-expression, as well as surface decoration and glazing. Weaving lessons are guided by your goals for skill-building and are appropriate for the total beginner (never touched a loom or yarn? No problem!) or for the weaver looking to build on an established skill set. Participants will design a project (scarf, wall hanging, or table runner), select yarns, wind a warp, “dress” a 4-shaft floor loom, and weave the project. This 2-day workshop will introduce you to turning tools, equipment and accessories. As the course emphasis is on practical turning, you'll get substantial hands-on experience in basic woodturning techniques. Using your allocated lathe and tools you’ll produce a functional and/or artistic, wooden bowl. No previous woodworking experience required. Beginner and intermediate level students are welcome. Open studio is offered exclusively for Fuller Craft Museum Members with prior experience in ceramics and need a studio to work in.
