6-week class. Metalsmithing is typically defined as the practice of forming and fabricating metal into jewelry. While most commercial jewelry is crafted in gold, silver, and platinum, in this course you will work in copper, brass and/or silver. This 6-week class will cover essential metalsmithing skills such as sawing, filing, soldering, and texturing metal. Experience the surface design technique of shibori, and create unique patterns on fabric using the natural dye indigo. Shibori, or physical resist, has been a traditional pattern-making technique in Japan, India, Africa throughout history, and continues today.
