Hand Embroidery Basics

In this class you’ll learn basic hand embroidery stitches, how to transfer patterns, and ideas for how to use embroidery in your craft projects. By the end of class you’ll have started your first embroidery sampler, which can be framed as décor or saved to reference on future projects. Limited to 8 students (16 years of age or older). Introduction to Shibori and Indigo Workshop

Experience the surface design technique of shibori, and create unique patterns on fabric using the natural dye indigo. Shibori, or physical resist, has been a traditional pattern-making technique in Japan, India, Africa throughout history, and continues today. We will begin experimenting with Japanese approaches such as Kumo (binding), Ori-Nui (stitching), Itajime (clamping) and Arashi (pole wrapping).
