June 27, 2:00 pm EST
June 27, 2021 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Event Navigation
Join us on the last Sunday of each month for a lively discussion of two objects from Fuller Craft Museum’s collection and discover new insights on art and craft from our skilled Museum Educators.
Object Talks are approximately 45- to 60-minutes in length and registration is required.
Contemporary craft is marked by new interpretations of traditional technique and innovation in design and materials. As styles, techniques, and meanings in the field progress, what endures is the work of the hand and the stories shared by the maker and the object. In the short time that the Museum has collected craft, an effort has been made to acquire the best examples of objects by artists who, by the very nature of their work, invigorate the conventions and the definitions of their media.
June 27, 2021 | Under New Management: The Commodification of the Permanent Collection
This month we will discuss: Stellar Illusion Basket and Peach Jam Pot
Under New Management: The Commodification of the Permanent Collection features works from Fuller Craft’s collection selected by guest curators and Boston-area artists Oliver Mak, Kenji Nakayama, and Pat Falco. Operating as a fictitious marketing company, MFN Integrated Solutions, the curatorial team aims to activate the collection while challenging the perception of museums through exhibition curation and design, including promotional posters created by artists/sign painters Nakayama & Falco as retail advertisements for each artwork. By reframing the works as commodities, the exhibition disrupts the oft-opaque nature of cultural institutions and offers new ways of looking at museum objects.
This is a virtual event to be held live on Zoom at 2:00 pm ET. You will receive the zoom link with your ticket confirmation via email–Please note, confirmation emails with detailed information may sometimes end up in your junk mail or spam folder
