Mosaics Today: Ancient Art Through a Contemporary Lens
July 2, 2022 - December 4, 2022
Event Navigation
Mosaics Today: Ancient Art Through a Contemporary Lens is a juried exhibition that represents the richness of mosaic work being created today in this region. The exhibiting artists demonstrate technical proficiency, creativity in expression, and passion for challenging perceptions of this ancient medium. With roots in tradition, the selected works suggest a luminous and innovative future for mosaic art in New England.
Mosaics Today was juried by Kim Emerson, professional mosaic artist, founder and owner of the San Diego Mosaic School; and Beth C. McLaughlin, Artistic Director and Chief Curator of Fuller Craft Museum.
The New England Mosaic Society (NEMS) is a volunteer organization that promotes and supports mosaics as a fine art. It began in 2015 when ten mosaicists came together at Mosaic Oasis in Arlington, MA and started the discussion to form the society. Today, its mission is to promote contemporary mosaic art while preserving traditional techniques.
NEMS is committed to building a diverse and welcoming community of artists of all ability levels, as well as lovers and supporters of mosaic art. Membership is open to all New England mosaic artists including amateurs, professionals, and mosaic suppliers. Members are encouraged to grow through education, sharing of information, and involvement in exhibitions and community events.
