Mary Merrill: Fields of Interest

March 19, 2016 - April 17, 2016

Mary Merrill, South of the Border, 1998, wool.

Fuller Craft Museum is delighted to present Mary Merrill: Fields of Interest. This legacy exhibition will celebrate the life and artwork of Merrill, a renowned weaver whose creative practice gained its greatest momentum in her later years. Retrospective in scope, the exhibition will spotlight the multiple influences that inspired her tapestries: lush color palettes, international travel, domestic life, and a fervent love of weaving.

Much like her wool tapestries, Mary Merrill’s life was suffused with vitality, adventure, and cultural inspirations. And while her life was long, her creative output was small with only 17 tapestries in existence, all of which will be on display in Mary Merrill: Fields of Interest. The exhibition also will include objects and materials from her time as researcher and weaver for the Weavers Guild of Boston and Plimoth Plantation.
