Making a Magazine: Handmade Zines

This 6-week workshop begins with a brief review of the history behind zine making and review different book-binding methods for handmade zines (a simple three hole, kettle stitch binding, and of course, the good old, staples on the spine.) Next, we’ll spend one lesson on narrative comics, one on collaging found material, one on storytelling (writing and visually), and one on visual interviews. Students would finish the course with three- five fully made zines and ideas for many more.
Supply List:
- Any materials you feel comfortable drawing and painting with (Colored Pencils, Pens, Markers, Crayons, Watercolor Set, etc.)
- Construction Paper
- Printer Paper
- Watercolor paper/ Mixed media paper
- Needle and Thread for bookbinding
- Awl for Bookbinding
- Stapler
