Two-day Class. Introduction to Wicker Basketry introduces the student to the basic principles of weaving. Through this class the student will learn basket structure including terms and engineering, commonly used weaving materials, tools of the trade along with information that allows the student to complete the course and continue this craft with confidence, if they so desire.
Students will be provided with an array of colored reed to work with, allowing each student to select their own color palette. At the completion of class each student will have completed their first wicker basket. Instructor: William Krier
The principles/goals for the class:
- Introduction to basket structure (bases, spokes and rims)
- Introduction to reed, including how to process and color
- Introduction to commonly used tools
- Introduction to weaving techniques
- Create first wicker basket
