Eric “Eric in the Evening” Jackson Hosts “A Love Supreme” Concert

John Coltrane’s A Love Supreme with poetry and music performed by WGBH Radio’s Eric Jackson and Leonard Brown’s quintet, “Joyful Noise”.
Eric Jackson, host of WGBH Radio’s Eric in the Evening, will speak the words Coltrane wrote for the suite. Joyful Noise featuring Leonard Brown on reeds, Ron Mahdi on bass, George W. Russell, Jr.,on piano, Stan Strickland on reeds, and Alvin Terry on drums will perform John Coltrane’s “A Love Supreme”, a four part suite composed by Coltrane thanking God for all and everything.
Following the concert, Leonard Brown, Ph.D. will do a signing for his book John Coltrane and Black America’s Quest for Freedom, Spirituality and Music. Leonard Brown is co-founder and producer of the John Coltrane Memorial Concert (est.1977). He is the editor of John Coltrane and Black America’s Quest for Freedom, Oxford University Press, 2010 and is emeritus professor of African American Studies and Music at Northeastern University.
