Amy Genser: Shifting
January 22, 2022 - November 20, 2023
Connecticut artist Amy Genser works with paper and paint to explore her ongoing obsession with texture, pattern, and color. Using paper as pigment, she layers, cuts, rolls, and combines the humble material into vibrant tableaux that are inspired by the natural world—the flow of water, the shape of beehives, the organic irregularity of plants, and more. For her site-specific installation at Fuller Craft Museum, Genser explores the mutable beauty of Fuller Craft Museum’s natural surroundings. Using her language of paper, paint, metal, thread, and dimensionality, the artist articulates the power of each season and the beautiful transitions in between. What’s more, Shifting represents a new development for Genser, expanding her practice into sculptural constructions that extend off the walls to engage with the museum’s interior architecture.
The exhibition is made possible with support from the Caroline R. Graboys Fund.
