ANIMALS! ANIMALS
Instructor: Susan Borke
Ability level: all levels
Knitting stuffed animals is a great small project for traveling and a
terrific gift for the kids in your life. In this 90 minute seminar you
will start an easy “origami rabbit” and learn about other animal
pattern resources in books and on the web. You will take away yarn, the
pattern for the project and a bibliography of animal pattern sources.
Depending on your expertise and speed as a knitter, you may even take
away a finished bunny!
1 class
Saturday, November 4
10:00am – 11:30am Mem: $20 • NonMem: $25
Materials required:
1 set of US 8 needles
1 skein of Lion Brand Fun Fur (or equivalent)
It might be fun to have some different “bunny” colors such as white,
brown, gray, variegated browns or grays – even Easter colors (pink, purple,
yellow) to make knitted bunny “peeps”
It would be helpful to have some stuffing material and a few tapestry needles
in the event fast knitters are ready to stuff and assemble their projects.
Susan Borke is an enthusiastic
self-taught knitter who has been slowly working her way through
projects large and small over the last few years. Having caught the
knitting "bug" through knitting stuffed animals, she is excited about
the opportunity to participate in K2TOG. When not knitting, Susan is an
attorney for the National Geographic Society.

CRAFTS
AND CONFLICT:
THE ROLE OF THE ARTISAN IN TIMES OF TROUBLE By Peter
Hagerty of Peace Fleece
Peace Fleece is a Maine yarn company with a mission of social change
and a commitment
to helping historic enemies cooperate and prosper through trade. Peter
Hagerty
and his wife, Marty Tracy, began purchasing wool from the Soviet Union
in 1985
in hopes that through trade they could help diffuse the threat of
nuclear war.
Since then they have worked with shepherds in Russia, Krygyzia, Israel,
the West
Bank, Montana, Ohio, Texas and Maine. Their mission for uniting people
through
crafts has taken them to many corners of the globe to work directly
with the
shepherds and artisans who provide Peace Fleece wool. Peter and Marty
believe
that promoting crafts in our hectic society is important, and that by
inspiring
people to work with their hands, that they can find more time to
discover their
own inner solutions for peace.
As part of his lecture, Peter
will share how creating and using handmade crafts can bring healing to
individuals and to communities. Audience members will be encouraged to
contribute stories on how they have been able to use their own craft to
make themselves stronger. www.peacefleece.com.
