Quilting America: Cottage Street School Quilts

June 9, 2012 - August 12, 2012

This year, our Art ASPIRE program benefitted the Cottage Street School elementary students from Sharon, Massachusetts. Each of the K – 5 youngsters participated in the program, which was run during school hours to maximize the program’s reach into the school community. The end result was a rich collection of colorful quilts that will be permanently displayed at Cottage Street School following this exhibition.

From January – March 2012, Jodi Stevens, the Art ASPIRE educator, held 15 workshops with Cottage Street School students. Her sessions involved hands-on instruction and collaboration with each student to create individual quilting squares. The vibrant pieces were then stitched together by Ms. Stevens to create a collection of 7 vibrant quilts. The young artists were asked to use the schools 2011 – 2012 theme, America the Beautiful, as inspiration.
